Room 14 Winchester School

We have been learning all about what Palmerston North has to offer and also we have enjoyed learning all about the places of historical interest in our city.  We went on a really interesting bus tour of the city and here are some photos of our day. Here we are at Anzac Park which used to be a fortified Maori village. We got an amazing view of the city. Here we are at Karaka Grove which, like Anzac Park, is a place of great historical interest. Here the Rangitane tribe fought a fierce battle in the 1800's. Karaka Grove is near a dairy farm and we were lucky enough to visit some brand new little calves. We had our morning tea in the Esplanade. The cafe at the Esplanade used to be the old Post Office. We had our lunch in the Square. We did a hunt in the Square and we enjoyed looking at all the statues, sculptures, the war memorial and the clock tower.

We love doing Maths. Here we are learning the Te Reo names for cities  and places in New Zealand. We had to add and subtract with dominoes to get around New Zealand and we had to say the place names in Te Reo.

We have loved learning the glockenspiel in Modules. All the songs we played were fun to learn and we think learning to play an instrument is really fun!

We have loved doing gymnastics in the past few weeks.

We have had great fun designing and creating our own toys and games, as part of our Inquiry Learning about toys and games from the past to the present. Here are some photos of some of our toys and games that we designed and made.

We have had a great visit to Te Manawa. In class we have been learning about toys and games from the past up until today, and at Te Manawa we learnt that some toys, such as fidget spinners, that we thought were really modern were actually invented some time ago. We got to try out lots of toys and games and this was so much fun. Here we are sorting out how old some toys and games are. We all loved making this robot walk in different directions. This game is like a giant marble run. It is great fun and you can make up your own design. We loved going to visit the Art Gallery after we had our lunch. Some of the art we saw were by ex - Winchester school students.

We have loved creating our sunflowers. We learnt how to do quilling and we used this technique to create the sunflower seed head.
